Xiaomi 12 Lite announced – big, yet light, with flagship specs at a mid-range price

Written by admin

Today Xiaomi announces a new upper mid-ranger in its 12 series – the Xiaomi 12 Lite. The phone combines a feather-light, slim design with a large 6.55-inch display.

Two more major selling points are the “studio-level” 108-megapixel main camera, along with its impressive 67W fast charging. Charger included!

Flat-edge design à la iPhone

Unlike other Xiaomi phones in the 12 series, the Xiaomi 12 Lite has a flat-edge design, which means flat corners, a perfectly flat screen and a back that is reminiscent of a modern iPhone. The back of the phone has a shimmering, refracting effect for added flair, while the rest of the design is quite minimalist and industrial.

The Xiaomi 12 Lite color options are:

Xiaomi describes the thin and light design of the phone in a press release as follows:

Big main camera for vloggers with big ambitions

What stands out about the Xiaomi 12 Lite, in addition to the color-changing back cover, is the phone’s camera module, which contains three sensors surrounded by metal rings:

  • 108 MP main camera (f/1.88)
  • 8 MP ultra-wide angle camera (f/2.2)
  • 2MP macro camera (f/2.4)

In addition, the phone has a punch selfie camera of 32 megapixels.

Some of the welcome camera features include: Eye-tracking focus, Motion capture, Night mode, One-click AI cinema, Vlog mode, and Portrait mode.

Vloggers and influencers seem to be a main target of this phone, or at least a major source of inspiration for the camera features, as suggested by the Chinese company:

Large AMOLED screen, 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10+

The Xiaomi 12 Lite has some impressive screen specs, especially for its price:

  • 6.55″ AMOLED Dot Display (2400 x 1080 FHD+)
  • Up to 68 billion colors with TrueColor
  • 120 Hz refresh rate, 240 Hz touch sampling rate
  • AdaptiveSync
  • Dolby Vision and HDR10+ support

Basically, the fact that the big screen has AMOLED technology instead of LCD means it should have pitch black tones with no backlighting, perfect viewing angles and vibrant and beautiful colors. HDR10+ support means supported movies have better contrast, more well-defined bright and dark spots, unlike what we see on the average phone. The 120Hz screen refresh rate is another welcome addition and it means Android transitions, games, and pretty much anything happening on the screen (which supports a higher refresh rate) is rendered twice as smooth as the average 60Hz phone screen. .

The 240Hz sampling rate means a faster response time from the moment you tap the screen to the moment the phone responds. And the phone will respond quite quickly, because in addition to the fast display, there is also a fast processor in it…

More impressive specs

The Xiaomi 12 Lite is powered by the Snapdragon 778G processor, has 5G support and comes in the following variants in terms of RAM and storage:

  • 6GB + 128GB
  • 8GB + 128GB
  • 8GB+256GB

UFS 2.2 + LPDDR4X memory for all three variants.

There doesn’t seem to be any expandable storage, though, and no headphone jack either. But in the typical Xiaomi fashion – there’s an infrared blaster if you want it. This can be useful for controlling TVs, air conditioners and other technology in the home (and just as easily in bars and hotels) that use IR.

As for the software, the Xiaomi 12 Lite comes with Android 12 and the company’s MIUI 13 at the top, which has evolved to look quite similar to iOS, but that could actually be a bonus for people moving from iPhone to Android.

And MIUI 13 does have some useful features such as a screen recorder, screenshot editor, a screencasting shortcut, reading mode, an NFC shortcut and so on (yes, there is NFC on board).

For authentication, the phone has an on-screen fingerprint sensor. And if we go from what we’ve seen on previous Xiaomi phones, it will probably be a fast one.

Has 67W fast charging, comes of a supplied fast charger

The Xiaomi 12 Lite has a 4,300 mAh battery, which supports up to 67 W, wired “turbo charging”. And while some companies skimp on even giving us a slow charger, your new Xiaomi 12 Lite comes with a 67-watt charger out of the box – nice!

According to Xiaomi, it only takes 13 minutes for the included charger to give you up to 50% of the battery life.

The 12 Lite also has what is called Xiaomi AdaptiveCharge, which is supposed to keep the battery healthy for longer, by teaching the user’s nighttime charging routine “to optimize the charging strategy during the night”.

  • $399 for the 6GB RAM/128GB storage variant
  • $449 for the 8GB RAM/128GB storage variant
  • $499 for the 8GB RAM/256GB storage variant
