Vivo has made a name for itself by making smartphones that offer brilliant camera experiences, beautiful designs and snappy software experiences. Now the company is back with its latest flagship model: the Vivo X80 Pro.
The most exciting feature of the Vivo X80 Pro is the fingerprint scanner
Some people love in-display fingerprint scanners and others hate them. Traditional side/back sensors or even Apple’s Face ID biometric security system are often preferred. But the new Vivo X80 Pro could be the device that changes things permanently for in-display scanner technology and it’s all thanks to some major improvements on both the hardware and software side. The changes are noticeable right from the start. Registering a fingerprint usually requires users to press and lift their fingers multiple times, but with the Vivo X80 Pro, a single tap is enough for each finger. Once registered, you don’t have to worry so much about hitting the right spot on the display. Vivo’s new ‘3D Ultrasonic Large Fingerprint Sensor’ has a much larger surface area, so you have more freedom to unlock the phone.
Oh, and one more thing, you don’t have to worry about getting the phone (or yourself) wet. The new and improved fingerprint scanner, which is supported by Qualcomm’s ‘3D Sonic Max’ technology, works even when wet.
Vivo’s new flagship is packed with the latest technology
Of course, there’s a lot more to the Vivo X80 Pro than a nice fingerprint scanner. It features a 6.8-inch 120Hz AMOLED display that is surrounded by slim bezels and curved bezels on both sides. That comes on top of a small hole above it. Inside Vivo’s latest flagship is the Snapdragon 8 Gen1 chipset, Qualcomm’s latest and greatest (up to the Gen1+ arrives on Friday anyway), as well as 12 GB of RAM and a whopping 256 GB of internal storage.
Guaranteed you won’t have any battery drain issues, is a 4,7000mAh battery and Android 12 right out of the box. In addition, Vivo adds support for 80W fast wired charging and 50W wireless charging. It also promises three years of Android OS updates and security patches.
A ZEISS branded camera experience is also included
This particular smartphone comes with a 32-megapixel selfie camera, a 50-megapixel main sensor, a 48-megapixel ultra-wide angle lens, a 12-megapixel telephoto camera with 2x zoom support and gimbal stabilization, and an 8-megapixel 5x periscope zoom alternative.
That versatile rear setup sits in a huge camera bump that also includes some camera branding and an LED flash. It’s all backed by a new custom image signal processor, the Vivo V1 Plus, which reportedly improves image processing times and processing effects, such as cinematic video bokeh mode.
Vivo X80 Pro release date, price and availability
Vivo has yet to confirm an exact release date for the X80 Pro, although the global launch will kick off in India in the coming weeks. A European launch is likely to follow shortly after. In terms of price, the Vivo X80 Pro will be sold in India for 79,999. That’s the equivalent of just over $1,000 and just under $1,000 without taking into account local tax differences, so final sale prices in other regions will vary.
