Unofficial Pixel Watch tried to pair with any phone at the mall

The Reddit user, with the handle Andad87, posted that he was browsing Instagram while navigating the mall when the request to link popped up. He had the presence of mind to take a screenshot which we have attached to this article. The image showed that a Pixel Watch app is required to set up the timepiece. The Reddit subscriber happened to be walking near some electronics stores in the mall (including JB HiFi) when the Fast Pair page popped up on display.
The page also includes a link to the Google Play Store for a quick download of the Pixel Watch app. However, the app has yet to be listed on the Play Store, so when Andad87 tapped on the diamond-shaped link, it was sent to a 404 error page in the Google Play Store.

So why did this random page appear on the Reddit user’s phone? It could be that one of the electronics stores in the mall took a recently received Pixel Watch box and opened it to take a look or set up a demo. The Pixel Watch is rumored to have a 1.18-inch display and may cost $399 for the mobile model. The Bluetooth-only version of the device is said to be priced lower.

According to the latest rumors, the watch should be equipped with a 300 mAh battery and offer features such as heart rate monitoring, electrocardiogram sensors (ECG), Blood Oxygen monitoring (SP02), support for GPS and NFC and water resistance up to 50 meters. Color options are expected to be silver, gold and black with the latter available in a matte finish. The watch should have just over 1.5GB of RAM, which is the figure most Wear OS watches have. Google Assistant also plays a prominent role on the device.
Google is building a Pixel ecosystem to challenge Apple and Samsung. By the end of this year, the Pixel name will appear on premium flagship phones, earbuds (including a “Pro” variant), and a smartwatch. Next year, the Pixel Tablet will join the club.
