Samsung seems to be working on impressive update delivery speeds in recent years, at least for flagship devices. And now, the The beta version of Android 13 seems to be in preparation mode to get the Galaxy S22 Ultra, the Galaxy S22 Plus and the Galaxy S22, reports 9to5Google†
Android 13 beta with One UI 5.0 reportedly coming soon
As you may know, Google hasn’t finalized Android 13 yet and is still releasing betas for Pixel phones. Now, new evidence shows that the Android 13 beta will be available soon Samsung’s reigning flagship of the Galaxy S22 series. Right now we are at the third beta for Android 13, which brought tweaks and fixes as the new operating system update moves towards stability. And from what it looks like, Android 13 could be released to the public ahead of schedule this year, reportedly sometime in August or September.
TizenHelp managed to find some exciting information for Galaxy S22 owners eager to test the new OS update. It looks like the South Korean company is ready to start testing Android 13 on its flagship devices.
We are talking about firmware version S906NKSU2ZVF6 (as you can see in the screenshot below) that has appeared in South Korea, and it is believed to be the first Android 13 beta for Galaxy S22. However, the update hasn’t rolled out to anyone yet, but it could happen pretty soon.
As usual, the first lucky Samsung phones to be allowed to test Android 13 are the Galaxy S22 Ultra, the Plus and the vanilla Galaxy S22. Soon after, the beta is believed to open for Samsung’s foldable phones (the Z Fold 3 and the Z Flip 3), with last year’s flagship Galaxy S21 phones to get it after.
One UI 5.0 (or what the next Samsung skin on top of Android 13 will eventually be officially called) is a mystery at this point. Not much is known about it other than the possibility that it will bring some improvements in animations and minor tweaks. One UI 4.0 brought a more Material You-esque look and feel to the phones that support it, but we’re yet to hear what One UI 5.0 will bring.
Last year, Samsung released the beta version of Android 12 in September, but this year it seems to go a little faster. Rumors and reports point to a July release of Android 13 beta for Samsung phones. Here’s the fast delivery of updates from Samsung!
Android 13: what to expect
Last year, Android 12 was a major update with a new design language called Material You, with icons that change their colors to match your wallpaper, among other features. And, judging by history, that pretty much means Android 13 will be more of a quality-of-life update than a major thing. Google will most likely focus on improving what we got with Android 12 and refining the experience. For example, Android 13 will bring visual improvements to the dynamic theme with four pre-made color themes.
Another really nice change is a redesigned wallpaper picker that lets you preview the available wallpapers right from the home screen by long-pressing an empty space.
Android 13 also brings a new photo picker, aimed at improving privacy. Much like how this is done in iOS, the new photo picker allows you to share certain photos with an app without giving it access to your entire photo library. Right now the photo picker in Android asks for permission to read your entire photo library by default, but with Android 13 you also get a more privacy-oriented option.
Android 13 is expected to come to Pixel phones first, probably sometime in August or September, and then all respective manufacturers should also release their Android 13-based firmware. And, by the looks of it, Samsung may be leading the way in the quick update competition.
