The high-quality video editing app DaVinci Resolve for iPad is now available for free

Written by admin

A few months ago, in October, we reported that DaVinci Resolve has been announced to receive a special iPad version. Those of you who got excited about it can finally rejoice, because the app is officially out.

The announcement came in earlier today from the BlackMagic official Twitter account. You can find the powerful video editing software on the App Store as a free download, but it also comes with a premium version.

Unlike some notable competitors, such as Adobe’s suite of apps, DaVinci Resolve’s premium features don’t come at the cost of a subscription, but in the form of a single in-app purchase for $94.99. This gives you access to features such as:

  • Work with files of any resolution up to 6K
  • Edit videos at over 60 FPS
  • Advanced noise reduction
  • Lens distortion correction
  • Export videos with stereoscopic 3D support
  • Automation scripts
  • Advanced collaboration features for larger teams
  • And many other functions

What’s even cooler is that Black Magic’s app is almost completely free to download and use. Until you need to apply a feature that requires the premium version, you won’t be prompted to complete the in-app purchase, making the app perfect for enthusiasts, vloggers, or YouTubers.

As a reminder, the DaVinci Resolve iPad app isn’t just a cloud-based solution or some kind of in-depth companion app. It is a full-fledged port of the PC version of the software, giving users access to professional editing tools for files in the following formats:

  • Black Magic RAW
  • Apple ProRes
  • MP4
  • AVI
  • MKV
  • H.265 files, mostly used for fast streaming

The app also comes with Black Magic’s acclaimed library of workflows and presets, and can work with Blackmagic Cloud, meaning any projects you’ve started on PC can be transferred – and even run – on iPad. This also means you can collaborate with others on the go, even if you’re working on the same project files.

The DaVinci Resolve iPad app is now available as a 2GB download for all iPads running iPadOS 16 or later and equipped with – at least – the A12 Bionic chip. If you want to try it out and see if it’s as impressive as it sounds, you can install it now.
