We haven’t been able to say this often in recent years, but Samsung has really managed to hide the designs of its next big products for a change… until now.
That’s right, the company’s next-gen AirPods Pro rival will probably be called Buds 2 Pro after all and not Galaxy Buds Pro 2, suggesting a deeper connection to the “standard” Buds 2 than the first-generation Buds Pro.
Of course, active noise cancellation is present on all three products, and while the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro look decidedly familiar in all three colors pictured today, they’re also noticeably different from any of their predecessors in some way.
For example, both the white and “bora purple” flavors will come with black holes, microphones and large speaker grilles giving the new buds a fresh, distinctive look, and just like the OG Buds Pro (but not the Buds 2), all three versions will apparently ship alongside matching charging cases (both inside and out).
Overall, the design is a little closer to what the Galaxy Buds Pro looks like on the outside rather than the Buds 2, giving us hope that the Buds 2 Pro will mimic the former’s IPX7 water-resistance standard rather than the much more modest one. IPX2 rating of the latter, while delivering improvements in key areas such as sound quality, voice call clarity, active noise cancellation and ambient mode functionality over both existing members of the hugely popular product family.
Unfortunately, even Evan Blass can’t confirm those (vaguely) rumored upgrades (or any other features for that matter), so we’ll have to wait until we get closer to Samsung’s. Unpacked event next month to make this photo clearer. Unless, of course, the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro will go official sooner, which was also recently speculated.
