Samsung completely messed up a ‘recent’ Galaxy Watch 4 update and bricked a ‘limited’ number of units

Samsung is without a doubt the world heavyweight champion in software support, as far as both Android smartphones and Wear OS smartwatches are concerned, but even the best of the best tech companies can sometimes screw up an update, spreading more bugs than useful new features.

Of course there are buggy implementations… and then there are catastrophic issues that don’t just negatively impact the user experience, making it virtually impossible to use an “updated” device.

A “limited” but certainly not negligible number of Galaxy Watch 4 and Watch 4 Classic owners have found themselves in the latter situation in recent weeks, and just as suspected, Samsung blames all accidents on a “recent” software update.

This is essentially the closing of the two smartwatches released in 2021, but bizarrely that doesn’t happen immediately after installing the respective “VI3” update. Instead, many people say that their problems started when their Galaxy Watch 4 series units turned off for the first time after installation, which somehow prevents the devices from turning back on.

Unfortunately, there seems to be no other way to fix this tragic new bug… other than to visit an authorized repair center and (kindly) ask for a replacement. Samsung seems to have both confirmed the problem and promised to make everything right at no cost to customers… in the home country of Korea, which should soon be extended to other regions as well.
The over-the-air update ending in “VI3” has also been discontinued (duh!), while unaffected users should probably consider themselves lucky and make sure their Galaxy Watch 4 or Watch 4 Classic will not be disabled under any circumstances, at least until Samsung delivers a comprehensive patch in a future update.

That means you don’t have to reboot or completely drain your portable deviceā€¦ unless, of course, you want to waste your time at a Samsung repair location.
