About four months ago OnePlus organized an open discussion with 16 participants from his user fan base on an online Open Ear Forums (OEF). The company mainly talked about the upcoming OxygenOS 13 update, aiming to get a general idea of what users expect from the new OS version.
However, because everything the participants could see was covered by an NDA, no detailed information emerged after the discussion. Fortunately, thanks to OnePlus’ follow-up proposals, we got a taste of some of the potential improvements to expect.
Recently, OnePlus posted a very short teaser video on Twitter, revealing at least some of the changes coming to the lock screen and always-on display (AOD). The video is also accompanied by a short text that reads “It’s bold, it’s fluid, it’s coming soon,” which may hint at the improved system consistency and optimization mentioned during the March discussion.
The short teaser first shows off various oval shapes, which supposedly represent the overall feel of OxygenOS 13. Hopefully that also ties into improved UI personalization and consistency.
However, the most prominent and obvious of the teased improvements are those related to the always-on display. AOD now supports a full music player with media controls and a picture of the art of the song. Although that widget will likely change depending on the application you use to stream audio.
Then we see a representation of the Canvas AOD function that we already know from previous OnePlus phones, although it is difficult to say whether there are improvements. However, it seems that you are no longer limited to just white, and you can choose a color just like with the canvas Samsung phones.
At the very end we also see the Insight AOD which can display your phone usage, date, time and more, but with nothing new in the mix. See for yourself:
