There is now a fix for the performance issues on Nvidia machines after upgrading to Windows 11 22H2. In a statement, an Nvidia spokesperson confirmed that a Windows 11 2022 Update feature was accidentally activated and caused performance issues in certain apps or games.

As the Windows 11 2022 update rolls out to Windows 11 version 21H2 and Windows 10 computers around the world, users quickly started reporting issues with the operating system on Nvidia machines. Many customers and our testing confirmed that GeForce cards suffered from performance degradation after version 22H2.

Since the GeForce cards are quite popular and millions of users also rely on the GeForce Experience app, it goes without saying that this was a major problem for many users who experienced severe drops in FPS while gaming, among other performance issues.

What has been fixed and improved in GeForce 517.48 for Windows 11

Nvidia fixed an issue where playing videos in a browser such as Chrome or Edge could result in Windows 11 BSOD. Fixed a Windows 11-specific bug where some UWP apps may slow down or crash when the G-SYNC is enabled for windows and full screen with “Vertical Sync” with a different value.

Here’s a list of all the other major bug fixes:

  • Fixed an issue where brightness settings were not applied correctly on certain Lenovo PCs.
  • Fixed an issue where “NVIDIA GPU only” option would not work after system reboot.
  • Fixed an issue where Adobe Illustrator displayed pixelated.
  • Fixed an issue where Chaos Vantage would not start on Windows 11.
  • Fixed crashes with DirectML.dll.
  • Fixed performance issues using variable refresh rate monitors.

If you’ve already upgraded to Windows 11 22H2 or plan to do the update in the coming weeks, be sure to check out the driver above. For those with AMD or Intel PCs, make sure to have Windows 11 22H2 drivers ready before upgrading to the new OS.

Windows 11’s 2022 update was only released last week and there are undoubtedly bugs that need to be patched by Microsoft and its partners.

It’s a shame the issue wasn’t addressed by Microsoft when Windows Insiders reported it earlier this year. From messages On Feedback Huba potential Nvidia performance issue popped up pretty quickly in the testing phase.

We’re not sure why it hasn’t been resolved. In any case, we’re glad the compatibility issues with Nvidia for Windows 11 version 22H2 are now resolved, but Microsoft is still working on a patch for BSODs caused by Intel audio drivers.
