Google’s tweaking Android 13 may delay the launch of Samsung’s One UI 5.0 beta

Google has been taking Android 13 for testing since February when it has released the first of two Android 13 Developer Previews. The beta program for Android 13 started in April and the final version of the OS will be released sometime this month for the Pixel 3a series and later. But an unscheduled beta of Android 13 may have caused Samsung to postpone its own One UI 5.0 beta program.
Samsung combines the latest Android build with the new version of its One UI interface, so the next update would be one with Android 13 and One UI 5.0. With the latter, Samsung developers are placing most of the key elements at the bottom of the screen so those with small fingers can reach them on a large-screen device. According to SamMobilethe One UI 5.0 beta program would open in the third week of July.

Today we kick off the month of August and the beta is nowhere to be found. The South Korean manufacturer reportedly hoped to release the stable version of One UI 5.0 (and Android 13) in October, but the current delay could force the manufacturer to drop the new software in November or later.

Last week, Samsung opened the One UI 5.0 beta forum on its Community website. This and the Members app are where beta testers will provide Samsung feedback on the One UI 5.0 beta versions.

So what’s stopping the beta program from starting? One theory is that Samsung sees that Google is still tweaking the beta version of Android 13 and waiting for Google to finish. Recently, the unplanned Android 13 beta 4.1 update was released to fix some bugs. Samsung would most likely want to introduce the One UI 5.0 beta program ahead of the next Unpacked event, which will include the unveiling of the Galaxy Z Fold 4, Galaxy Z Flip and the Galaxy Watch 5 series.

The event takes place on August 10 and will be here before you know it. You can watch the event livestream on YouTube at tap this link. You can also set a one-click reminder to alert you when the event is about to take place.
