Released commercially at the end of 2020, the undeniably extravagant AirPods Max that was needed nearly a year to reach a price that could be argued as something close to reasonable.
Unfortunately, Apple’s first-ever over-ear headphones returned (near) to their $549 MSRP after a few rounds of holiday deals where they scored discounts of up to $120…for limited time periods.
In recent months, retailers like Amazon have often deducted $80 from the list price of these bad boys in various colors, occasionally up to $100…for a few days at a time. But now the AirPods Max are discounted by a whopping $120 for the first time in a very long time, and there’s clearly no telling how quickly this great new deal could expire.
What’s almost certain is that you don’t have much time to trade, especially with just one color option listed at $120 (or 22 percent) off the “regular” price of $550 as we write this.
We’re talking about the Silver-coated AirPods Max, with Amazon also currently charging $100 less than usual for Green, Pink, Sky Blue, and Space Gray models. Admittedly, these are still not deep enough cuts to cover many of the best high-end wireless bluetooth headphones out there run for their money.
The released in 2022 Sony WH-1000XM5, for example, is usually available for only about $400 a pair, and while they’re still too new for discounts, something tells us the price will (occasionally) drop to $350 soon.
Then you’ve got the highly-reviewed Bose 700, which itself is “regularly” priced at four Benjamins, while today often fetch $70 less than retailers like Amazon.
Of course, it’s pretty obvious what many hardcore Apple fans are likely to pick at fairly similar prices, and while they’re certainly not perfect, the AirPods Max aren’t bad either, delivering solid overall audio performance and active noise cancellation for up to 20 hours on a single charge.
